who we are?

AURA is the social service centre of Maria Province (Thrissur) of the Congregation of Sisters of Charity (CSC). It functions as one of the main channel for the welfare undertakings for the needy people in the society. The centre AURA owes its name to Augustine John Ukken, a priest of Thrissur Diocese who served the poor and downtrodden in the 20th Century. His ministries were focusing on the slum dwellers, economically weaker sections, the poor and the marginalized of the society and most importantly the teenagers and children.

AURA came into existence in the year 2008 as registered Charitable Trust, and started working at Koorkkenchery as the main centre. The area of intervention was mainly schools and started working for the school children by giving them training programmes for all-round development, facilitated educational assistance, counselling and guidance.  The centre also caters to the needs of HIV/AIDS affected and infected children and slum dwellers for the provision of treatment.

The centre could manage to get new training centre at Chittissery in Thrissur in the year 2012 and the Office and Training Centre was shifted to Chittissery in May 2012. AURA functions for the solution of issue based problems of different categories of people and in fact it is in pursuit of excellence.
